The Tontine Hotel in Ironbridge, dates back to the 18th century, and lies close to the River Severn. In addition to a bar and restaurant, The Tontine offers high-quality bed and breakfast accommodation in Shropshire, around 30 minutes’ drive from both Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton. Comfortable rooms are tastefully furnished, many overlooking the river, and all include a TV, telephone and tea and coffee facilities. Most have en suite, and there are single and family rooms, with some rooms having 4-poster beds. A wide breakfast choice includes a full English breakfast, with lunchtime and evening meals also available. The lounge bar serves hot and cold bar snacks, while the restaurant is well-known for its hearty Sunday roasts from the carvery, and boasts views of the bridge from which the town takes its name. The centre of Ironbridge is less than 5 minutes’ walk from The Tontine and the Ironbridge Gorge was declared a World Heritage Site in 1986. Among Shropshire’s many historic houses, Weston Park is around 20 minutes’ drive, and medieval Stokesay Castle on the Welsh border is approximately 40 minutes away.
