Situated on the northern shore of Loch Gairloch, the Gairloch Carn Dearg offers magnificent sea and mountain views. With free private parking, this youth hostel dates back to the 1880s. This former hunting lodge offers both private rooms and bunk beds in shared dormitories. The communal lounge boasts panoramic views of the Torridon Hills and Loch Gairloch. Guests are welcome to make use of the Gairloch Carn Dearg’s fully equipped self-catering kitchen and the spacious dining room. Laundry facilities are also available. The village of Gairloch is just 5 minutes’ drive away and is home to several fine pubs, coffee shops, and restaurants. One of the top 5 Scottish Marine Life Watch destinations, Gairloch also offers boat trips to watch whales or dolphins. The Gairloch Carn Dearg has sandy beaches on its doorstep and is an ideal stop-off point for many cyclists.

SYHA is a charity aiming to inspire all, especially young people, to broaden their horizons, gain knowledge and independence through new experiences of adventure and discovery. In support of this aim, all bookings will include a temporary membership fee per person per night. (Full, existing members of SYHA and HI using these channels are not entitled to a membership refund).
From the age of 5 to 15 years, young people must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and may be accommodated in a single-gender shared room with the parent or guardian and other guests, at the discretion and responsibility of the parent or guardian. The young person/people, the parent/guardian and the other occupants of the room must be of the same gender. SYHA advise that additional notice be given to the destination youth hostel when travelling with children, to ensure that suitable accommodation is available. Contact details can be found on your booking confirmation.
Parties with young children (under 5 years) will only be accommodated in designated family rooms, where available.
There is no capacity for extra beds or cots in a shared dormitory or private accommodation.
When booking for more than 9 persons:
25 percent of the total amount may be charged any time after booking.
If cancelled or modified up to 28 days before date of arrival, 25 percent of the total price of the reservation will be charged.
If cancelled or modified later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged.
No stag or hen parties are permitted at any youth hostel.
Depending on location check-in is either 15.00 or 17.00. Please check these times as stated on your reservation (or on Booking.com) before arrival.
SYHA does not accept American Express cards as payment or guarantee.
Refunds: should you be entitled to a refund or part refund please note that these are processed by SYHA National Office, Stirling. It will take 7 to 10 working days from the date of us receiving your request for the refund to be processed back onto the original card used. Please inform Gairloch Sands Youth Hostel in advance of your expected arrival time. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly with the contact details provided in your confirmation. Please note that the full amount of the reservation is due before arrival. SYHA will send a confirmation with detailed payment information. After full payment is taken, the property's details, including the address and where to collect keys, will be emailed to you.
