The La Dependence apartment is in the heart of the city of Cortona. The city was founded by the Etruscans. The attractively furnished apartment is on the first. second and third floor of a palazzo. The apartment has a nice kitchen and a number of antique pieces of furniture. Each bedroom has a kettle so you can enjoy a cup of tea in the mornings. There is a small balcony. Cortona was originally built on one of the earliest inhabited hills. It is comparable to Assisi and Volterra. It is close to the border between Tuscany and Umbria. The city looks out on the Valdichiana Valley and enjoys wonderful vistas. You can see Lake Trasimee in Umbria from the higher parts. In the Middle Ages. Cortona was a powerful city in the region. This is apparent in the many historic buildings and monuments. The old city wall is very impressive with its fortified towers and gates. The thirteenth century Musea dellAcademia Etrusca is in the Palazzo Pretorio. This holds a large collection of artefacts and treasures from Etruscan and Roman times.
